Motion picture “Ashfall” is the newest production from Dexter Studio, known for its work on “Along with the Gods”. Previously, it turned heads when it cast top stars, including Lee Byung-hun, Ha Jung-woo, Ma Dong-seok, Jeon Hye-jin, and Bae Suzy. According to the Korean Film Council’s web portal service on December 16 (Mon), “Ashfall” rose to the leader board in terms of advance ticket sales, a sign that the film will be a massive hit during this end-of-year holiday season.
Movie “Ashfall” features the story of people tasked with stopping the Baekdusan Mountain from erupting, an unprecedented disaster that could end North and South Korea if left unchecked. It is a highly anticipated film thanks to its lineup of interesting actors, outstanding acting, and unpredictable storylines surrounding the volcanic eruption of Baekdusan Mountain. As of December 16 (three days until the movie premieres), the Korean Film Council put the advance ticket sales rate of “Ashfall” at 26.8%, which was no. 1 among all motion pictures. This surpassed the record set by “Frozen 2”, the most popular animated motion picture ever released in Korea that attracted more than 10 million viewers, and a host of other Hollywood movies in a variety of genres released during the same end-of-year holiday window. Movie industry insiders expect “Ashfall” to dominate theaters this upcoming holiday season.
“Ashfall” will premiere on December 19, giving its audience a chance to enjoy the ensemble between top Korean movie stars, and the creative story revolving around the pending eruption of Baekdusan Mountain.
