Visual effects (VFX) and content corporation Dexter Studios (CEO: Kim Wook, Kang Jong-ik), which has a number of box office hits on its resume (including the “Along with the Gods” series), has confirmed the release date of its new film, “Escape from Mogadishu.” With this latest release, Dexter Studios has taken another step in becoming an all-in-one comprehensive content producer.
Dexter Studios recently made the decision to release Escape from Mogadishu, Directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, this summer. Escape from Mogadishu depicts the daring escape of Korean nationals from Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia, during the Somali Civil War in the 1990s. Dexter Studios participated in the latter half of the production process, including co-production of the film and VFX elements, sound, and color correction.
Escape from Mogadishu is the fifth film Dexter Studios has ever worked on. Dexter Studios is an all-in-one comprehensive content producer capable of content-related planning, shooting, production, and post-production using a “one-stop system.” So far, Dexter Studios has worked on “Mr. Go” (2013), “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” (2017), “Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days” (2018), and “Ashfall” (2020).
“Mr. Go” made headlines as the first movie in Asia to feature a full 3D character, while the Along with the Gods series made history in the Korean industry by selling more than two million tickets in total. Last year, Ashfall rose to the top of the box office (as at the point of release), and was ruled a success both in terms of production and mass appeal. Together, the four films have sold more than 36.27 million tickets in total.
As a leading all-in-one comprehensive content producer, Dexter Studios plans to continue its efforts in improving its content production capabilities. In fact, Dexter Studios is diversifying its portfolio by expanding its scope of operations to planning and producing not only movies, but also TV serials. Apart from its film and TV productions, Dexter Studios has also secured a number of original IPs, including popular web novels, webtoons, and novels that can be converted into video content sometime in the future.
Moreover, Dexter Studios is looking to secure additional channels. The company is preparing for various collaborations with domestic and foreign OTT companies given the fact that content market is rapidly reorganizing itself around OTT due to the ongoing effects of COVID-19.
Dexter Studios’ CEOs Kim Wook and Kang Jong-ik said, “We have confirmed the release date of our fifth film, Escape from Mogadishu, for this summer. Since we have a director and a cast of actors people know and trust, we are confident Escape from Mogadishu will be a well-made movie.” They added, “Moving forward, we will continue to work on a variety of productions to reinforce our reputation as an all-in-one comprehensive content producer rather than just a VFX company.”
